Start with the game and draw
Read the game name printed on the ticket before looking at the numbers. Lotto, Lotto Plus 1, Lotto 5 Max, PowerBall, PowerBall XTRA and Daily Lotto are separate result streams. A number set from one game cannot be checked against another game simply because both draws happened during the same week.
Next confirm the draw date and draw number. Multi-draw tickets can cover several future draws, while a ticket bought on a draw day may still be for the following draw if sales had already closed. The printed draw details are therefore more reliable than assuming that the ticket belongs to the day on which it was purchased.
Compare every board separately
A board is one complete line of selected numbers. Check every main number on one board before moving to the next. Do not combine matching numbers from different boards; prize divisions are calculated per board. If an add-on game was selected, compare that same board with the add-on result as a separate outcome.
For Lotto-family draws, the published bonus ball can affect certain prize divisions even though it is not an extra number selected on the ticket. For PowerBall-family draws, the PowerBall is a separate selected value and must be compared with the published PowerBall. Daily Lotto has no separate bonus-ball selection.
Treat a scan as a first check
SnapLotto uses text recognition and game-specific rules to read a ticket photo. The scan can save time, especially when a ticket contains several boards, but image recognition is not infallible. Glare, folds, faded ink, cropped edges and a steep camera angle can change a digit or hide a game label. Always review the extracted game, draw and numbers shown after the scan.
If a result is not yet stored, the scanner should report that the draw cannot be verified rather than guessing. Try again after the published result is available. A clean photo of the full ticket on a plain surface normally gives the most reliable extraction.
Confirm a possible prize
When a board appears to match a prize division, compare it again with the official result and prize table. Prize amounts can depend on the number of winners and the final validated pool, so an early result or estimated jackpot is not a payment confirmation.
Keep the original physical ticket in good condition. A photo, screenshot or SnapLotto scan is not a claim instrument and cannot replace the original ticket. Final validation, claim requirements and payment are handled by the South African National Lottery operator and its authorised channels.
Avoid the most common checking mistakes
The most common errors are checking the wrong date, treating the bonus ball as a normal selected number, combining matches across boards and assuming that an estimated jackpot is the amount won. Slowing down for one complete board-by-board comparison prevents most of these mistakes.
It is also easy to stop after finding one non-winning board. A ticket can contain several boards, add-on games or draw dates, and each valid entry needs its own comparison. Marking the checked boards on a separate note can help when the ticket layout is dense, but do not write over the ticket itself.
